Footstep Log Support
Footstep Log is a pedometer app (iOS / Android) that automatically records your steps, routes and activities (walking, train, car, bicycle, staying) so you can look back on your day in a timeline and on a map. If you have any questions, please check the FAQ below or contact us.
FAQ
Q. My step count is not shown or stays at 0
Steps are read from Apple Health on iPhone and from Health Connect on Android. Please check that Footstep Log is allowed to read steps.
- iPhone: Open the Health app → your profile (top right) → Apps → Footstep Log, and turn on Steps.
- Android: Open Health Connect settings → App permissions → Footstep Log, and allow Steps.
By default, Health Connect on Android does not allow reading data older than 30 days.
Q. My routes are not recorded
To keep recording while the app is closed, location access must be set to "Always" ("Allow all the time" on Android).
- iPhone: Settings → Apps → Footstep Log → Location, choose "Always" and turn on "Precise Location".
- Android: Settings → Apps → Footstep Log → Permissions → Location, choose "Allow all the time" and turn on "Use precise location". A notification is shown while recording.
On Android, if you "Force stop" the app, recording stops until you open the app again. If recording has stopped for a long time, the app notifies you with a "Recording has stopped" notification.
Q. The activity type (walking, train, car, etc.) is wrong
Activity types are detected automatically from location and motion. To correct one, tap the activity in the list on the Home tab to open the map, then use "Edit" on the activity shown at the bottom of the screen. To rename an activity, long-press it in the list. You can undo your edits with "Remove edits and revert to automatic detection".
Q. I want my home and workplace to be shown by name
Register places such as home and work in Settings → Frequent places. Stays at those places are shown with the name and icon you registered.
Q. Where is my data stored?
Your steps, locations and activity logs are stored only on your device and are never sent to our servers. No account is required. The app only reads data from Apple Health and Health Connect; it never writes to them. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
Q. How do I move my data to a new phone?
Go to Settings → Backup and use one of the following:
- iPhone to iPhone: Save with "iCloud backup", then choose "Restore from backup" on the new iPhone.
- iPhone or Android: Use "Export to a file" to save to Google Drive or another location, then choose "Restore from a file" on the new device.
Restoring does not delete data that is already on the new device.
Q. I don't want others to see the app
Turn on Settings → App lock. Face ID, fingerprint or your passcode will be required when the app starts or when you return to it. Recording continues while the app is locked.
