Furigana Memo Support

"Furigana Memo" is an iOS / Android note-taking app that lets you add furigana (ruby text) to your text and save and edit it. It is designed for novel writing and Japanese language learning. Please check the FAQ below or contact us with any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Furigana isn't being added automatically

Furigana is only added automatically for words you have already registered in a "word group". First register the word and its reading in a word group, then assign that word group to the folder containing the memo (you can assign it from the folder's settings). If furigana still doesn't appear, check that the word's spelling (full-width/half-width characters, okurigana, etc.) matches the memo text exactly.

Q. I want to use a different reading for the same word

Select the text in a memo and choose "Add ruby" from the selection menu to set a manual reading that applies only to that memo. Manual ruby takes priority over the automatic furigana from word groups. If you choose "Also register to word group" in the dialog, the same reading will automatically apply to other memos in that folder as well.

Q. I want to paste my text into a novel-posting site

The share/export feature can convert your text into the ruby notation used by Japanese novel-posting sites: Narou-style (｜base《ruby》), pixiv ([[rb:base > ruby]]), Alphapolis (#base__ruby__#), and HTML (<ruby>). After exporting, choose the destination app from the OS share sheet.

Q. Where is my data stored?

Memos, word groups, folders and settings are all stored only in a database on your own device, and are never sent to our servers. The App does not require account registration and has no cloud-sync feature. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Q. What happens to my data when I switch devices?

There is currently no feature to carry memos over to a new device. Before switching devices, we recommend using the share/export feature to save any memos you need, for example by email or to a file app.

Q. I want to restore a deleted memo

A deleted memo is not removed immediately — it moves to the "Trash". You can select a memo in the Trash to restore it. Memos are automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after being moved to the Trash, the next time the app is launched.
